Mediation Process

How Mediation Works

1. Initial Enquiry

You contact Atrium Mediation directly to discuss your situation and ask any questions about the process.

2. Individual Intake Meetings

Each person meets privately with the mediator to discuss their goals, concerns, and whether mediation feels suitable.

3. Joint Mediation Sessions

Sessions usually last 90 minutes. The mediator helps guide structured discussions around parenting, property, and finances.

4. Draft Agreement

When agreements are reached, the mediator prepares a written summary (Memorandum of Understanding) for both parties to review with their solicitors if they wish.

5. Next Steps

Many couples use their mediation agreement to create a formal separation agreement through their solicitors or to present to court if necessary.

All mediations are conducted under the principles of the Mediation Act 2017, which promotes voluntary participation, confidentiality, and self-determination.

> A clear, supported path toward agreement — not argument.
